Today we will have a shortened period due to the Career Fair.  However, we will begin your Show What You Know about Rational Expressions and Equations.  We will finish the rest of the assessment tomorrow.
 

February 15:
Today we will check our answers to the practice problems from p.953 (click here for answers) and the worksheet (click here for answers).  Tomorrow you will have an opportunity to Show What You Know about Lessons 6.5, 9.4, 9.5, and 9.6.  If you have completed all the practice problems and understand how to work them, you should be well prepared for this assessment.
 
February 14:
Since many students will be absent from class today (7th grade bowling trip and 8th grade NAEP testing), those who are present will have the entire period to work on the practice problems assigned on Friday: p. 953 and this worksheet.  These problems are due at the beginning of class tomorrow.
 

February 11:
Today we will first check the practice problems from p.579, 578, and 365 and rework the missed problems.  We will then continue our review of these lessons by completing another set of practice problems: p. 953 #34-50 and this worksheet.  These problems will be due at the beginning of class on Tuesday.  You will also have the entire period on Monday to work on these problems, since some students will be gone bowling and some students will be taking the NAEP test.

February 9:
Today we will review Lessons 6.5, 9.4, 9.5, and 9.6 to prepare for our next Show What You Know.  You need to have these practice problems completed for tomorrow: p. 579 #16-21, p.578 #26-31, and p. 365 #9-14 (except #10).  The "I Can" statements that you need to have mastered for this assessment are listed below.  
 

February 8:
Today we will finish Lesson 6.5, focusing on how to divide polynomials using synthetic division.  Remember, this method of dividing polynomials only works when you are dividing by an expression of the form x - k.  Otherwise, you will have to use long division.  The following practice problems will be due at the beginning of class tomorrow: Lesson 6.5 #27-35 odd.



 

February 7:
Today we will begin by taking a short 2 question quiz over Lesson 9.6.  One question will be solved by cross-multiplying and the other will be solved by multiplying through by the least common denominator.  We will then begin the first half of Lesson 6.5, dividing polynomials using long division.  The following practice problems will be due tomorrow:  Lesson 6.5 #15-25 odd.



 
February 4:
Today we will check and correct your practice problems from the second half of Lesson 9.6 #21, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30-32, and 42-50.  Be sure that you completely understand all the problems as we will have a short 2 question quiz over this material.

February 3:
You will have the entire class period today to work on the practice problems over solving rational equations by multiplying through by the least common denominator from Lesson 9.6 #21, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30-32, and 42-50.  These problems will be due at the beginning of the class period tomorrow.  Be sure that you ask questions about the ones that you don't understand how to do.

February 2:
Today we will first check your answers to the practice problems from the first half of Lesson 9.6 #33-40.  We will then continue with the second half of Lesson 9.6, solving rational equations by multiplying through by the least common denominator.  The following practice problems will be due at the beginning of class on Friday: Lesson 9.6 #21, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30-32, and 42-50.

Today we will complete a few more examples of how to solve rational equations by cross-multiplying.  Then you will work on the following practice problems: Lesson 9.6 #33-40.  These are due at the beginning of class tomorrow.

Today we will check your practice problems from Lesson 9.5.  We will also begin Lesson 9.6 Solving Rational Equations, focusing particularly on the Cross-Multiplying technique.

Today we will finish checking your Show What You Know.  You will also finish watching the three videos from the blog, taking notes as you would if I were working the problems in front of the class.  You will then complete the practice problems from Lesson 9.5 #12-17, 27-31, 34, 35, which are due at the beginning of class on Monday.

Today we will add, subtract, and multiply polynomials.  Although these topics expand a little on our previous lessons, I don't think you will have any trouble with this lesson!! After a couple of examples, you will have today's class period to work on the following practice problems from lesson 6.3:  #13 - 51 odd, #53 - 59 all.  Please check your odd problems with the back of the book to make sure you doing the problems correctly.  Whatever problems you do not finish in class will need to be completed at home tonight.  All problems are due at the beginning of class tomorrow.

Today we will continue with the lesson on completing the square.  The following practice problems will be due at the beginning of class on Monday:  Lesson 5.5 #47-51 odd, 55-59 odd, 85-88, 96, 97.  (Keep in mind that I will be adding more to this assignment over the next two days to include the quadratic formula, so be sure that you are budgeting your time and working on a few problems each night.)

Today we will continue with multiplying matrices.  Please complete the following practice problems from lesson 4.2:  #11 - 33 odd, 34, 48 - 52 even.  These will be due at the beginning of class on Thursday.  You may use a calculator to check your answers (as well as the back of the book), but you will need to be able to multiply matrices without a calculator so I would recommend practicing without using one.
